Last night I had my second pottery class.  We learned to throw on the wheel.  Holy cow!  I have a new found respect for potters that use the wheel.  It’s really tough and something that our instructor says takes a ton of practice.  Just to get the clay “centered” is half the battle.  Mine turned out to look a bit like a chalice.  I think it was supposed to be more of a cylinder, … it was a design decision, yeah, that’s right…   We used to say that in college when designing patterns and clothing and something didn’t go quite as planned after it was sewn together… lots of “design decisions”.

A new song for the day Bob Dylan’s “Someday Baby”…enjoy

Milton and Margie’s Soy Wax candles just featured my Chinese Take-Out boxes on their blog!  I just met Jess, the creator behind the candles, and they are wonderful.  The scents are amazing AND she’s a Minnesota artist too!

Please join the MN Etsy Street Team at Blick Art Supplies this Saturday – see flyer below.  We will be at the Minnetonka/Ridgedale store showing off our handmade items from 12-4 pm.  There will be some fun giveaways and treats!

If you are in the Mpls/St Paul area this weekend – plan on checking out the Living Green Expo at the MN State Fairgrounds on Sat & Sun from 10-5pm.  There’s all kinds of fun stuff to look at from cars, building supplies & food,  to cosmetics and toys.  There are usually some fun activities for kids too!  Enjoy.

Yep, that’s us.  The kids wanted to get out today and so we biked to a nearby park.  Bjorn in the WIKE, and Svea riding alongside us.  It is currently 34 degrees.  Guess you could say we are a hearty bunch, or maybe just crazy.  Not as crazy as my husband who bikes to work most of the winter (btw, wait for the commercial to load & finish).  Well, on the way back it started snowing and we came home for hot chocolate.  Only in the midwest do you have to bike wearing mittens at the end of April.  Mother nature can be cruel somedays, but we’d go bonkers if we had to stay inside all day.  So, buck-up!

I was proud of my 6 year old – picking up garbage to be recycled along the way.  No prompting, I swear!  It pays to lead by example.  I guess we’re doing something right in this whole parenting biz.

On the Etsy home front:

I started cutting and sewing more Re-useable Grocery Totes for my Etsy shop.  More to come soon!  Check back for updates.

One of my MN Etsy street team buddies, Jane from Glorious Hats , wrote a nice little blog post in our MN Etsy Street Team blog on my Reuseable Grocery Totes. Also, there’s a nice little write-up on MN Etsy’s Allison from ARTitecture .   Her MN inspired handtowels & matching totes are “green” and so very cute!  Check it out!

OOH, and if you’re in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area – go check out Craftstravaganza at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds today, Saturday from 9am-6pm!

I can’t believe it’s snowing here as I write this…. ugh… sigh.

Have a great weekend.

Happy Earth Day!!

It seems like we should be saying that everyday, right?!  My 6 year old asked me, “Mom, what’s Earth Day?” and I explained that it’s a day when we really think about our choices that we make about how to better take care of the earth.  Then I also said that it’s pretty silly to have an Earth Day because we should be thinking about our choices EVERY day – not just on a specific day.   So I guess it’s just best to lead by example.  This evening at my son’s ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) class I learned a quick and easy way to make a low-toxic cleaner (Borax is mildly toxic) for just about anything.

Here is the recipe for Alice’s Wonder Spray:

  • 1 tsp 20 Mule Team Borax
  • 2 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 1 squirt of liquid dish soap
  • optional – a few drops of essential oil if you like fragrance
  • Add all ingredients into a 16 oz. spray bottle and fill the rest up with warm water!

Easy, and you can even get the kids to help you clean!!  Or I’ve also read that vinegar and water is a great cleaner – also, baking soda too – if you want to avoid the Borax.

On another note, I subscribe to Google alerts and get messages in my email in-box whenever anyone searches or types in the name of my Etsy shop Luna Feliz.   Well, most of the time it’s nothing too exciting, but today I was pleasantly surprised to be featured on the Minnesota Materials blog – one that I’ve never seen before.  They were touting the Earth Day gig and ideas to help create a better world.  If you check out #3 on this site “Ditch Plastic Bags” – You will see that they featured my company as one of the Minnesota companies for re-useable Grocery Totes!  I was pleased that recognition was given to Minnesota companies trying to make a difference.  Because “green” can be beautiful!

The local news just ran this little ditty on my husband tonight.  He’s famous!  Well, not really  – just to me.  But it turned out pretty well.  Check it out!  The video to the right goes along with the written article.

Also -it’s spring break at our house, but more like sick-break.  We are nursing back our oldest from Strep throat & a broken collar bone.  Crazy combination don’t ya think?  So, needless to say there’s not much crafting going on in this house with one very sick kid and one very active and healthy toddler.   Thankfully my husband is home this week so we can tag-team the kids.

Come on Spring… we’re waiting!

I just thought I’d shake things up a bit… or at least make them more consistent across the board.  Although, I loved my “sadie sews” header (Sadie being one of my many given nicknames) , I just thought changing it to Luna Feliz – the name of my Etsy business would seem less complicated.   Read the rest of this entry »
